A New Dawn for the Human Sphere

In case you haven’t heard by now, Infinity is getting a new sectorial army in a couple of weeks; the Next Wave!

The Next Wave is a new sectorial for the Combined Army comprised of the humans that were left behind in occupied territories during the various phases of first contact with the Ur Hegemony. With the arrival of Hegemony leadership into the Human Sphere after numerous failed naval blockades, and a tenuous cease fire between humanity and the Combined Army, the humans in Hegemony controlled territory were granted full citizenship if they chose to stay. But why would anyone choose to join the invaders…

Achilles

The champion of Aleph, the bravest defender of humanity, the first and greatest triumph of Project: Warrior. Created to be the perfect killing machine and the lynchpin of Aleph’s propaganda wing, Achilles won the hearts and minds of many people in his defense of humanity during the war with the Combined Army. However, after Aleph’s refusal to resurrect his closest friend and companion, Patroclus, Achilles started to mistrust the A.I. and it’s intentions for humanity.

Seizing this opportunity, the Hegemony promised him what Aleph could not…he could be the bridge between humanity and the Hegemony that would usher the Human Sphere into a new age of prosperity free from the cold unfeeling logic of Aleph. He could make the Human Sphere “human” again.

And so Achilles publicly declared to the Sphere that he would personally guarantee that humanity would thrive within the Hegemony. He would stand in as the E.I.’s watchdog. Joined by the new Team Achilles, defectors from Aleph’s Steel Phalanx, he personally travelled to the human Hegemony territories to oversee rebuilding and recruitment.

The Next Wave

In order to defend themselves, these new human populated Hegemony territories would need a standing army. Highly distrustful of the Shasvasti, Morats, and Onyx Contact Force for obvious reasons, Achilles presented plans to the Hegemony for a new defense force. The Hegemony agreed to his plans, and so Achilles tasked Pandora to work with Hegemony scientists to retrofit their tech for human use. After months of recruitment and testing, the Next Wave was born.

Many of the standing forces of the Next Wave were either captured P.O.W.’s, criminal specialists, or resistance fighters that were trapped in Combined Army held territory during the three major offensives. Their reasons for joining vary from blind faith in Achilles to facing criminal charges in the empires of their birth.

That said, this is no rag-tag band of mercenaries. Thanks to Pandora, they have been outfitted in the best tech the Ur Hegemony could provide…gene therapy, biotechnical enhancements, weapons and armor far beyond what the Human Sphere could create…and combat ready biotech dinosaur pets!

The Miniatures

Corvus Belli was kind enough to send me a review copy of the entire wave (pun intended) of miniatures up for preorder.

First up we have the Next Wave action pack. This is the entry point into the army, consisting of Pandora, a Tekdraken, a Cliffjumper, an Ironside, a Contrabandalaros, and two Raindancers:

Next up we have the Next Wave’s first T.A.G., the Juggernaut. Technically a biotech saurian mount and rider combo; this miniature is amazing:

And lastly, we have the Glyph Warcor preorder exclusive miniature. Even the Ur Hegemony has journalists! I haven’t painted this guy yet, so here is a picture of the studio paint job:
